Mr Pusskins is orange. His door is red. The sun is yellow. ...I won't spoil the ending for you, but you get the idea. ''Mr Pusskins - Colours'' is an introduction to colours for the very youngest children. Each page is dominated by a scene in a particular colour, and the name of the colour. Thassit. It's a book to read with children who can't even talk yet. It's a book to learn about colours. It's a book to learn about books.

Although it is just a book of colours, there is a very simple narrative, as Mr Pusskins goes through his day. Brown (mud) leads on to blue (bath) and pink (fluffy towel). There's enough going on that you can talk about what the cat is up to, so it doesn't ever become stale or boring, but the main thrust is (and should be) the colours and their words.

Sam Lloyd's illustrations are as great as they are in the [[Mr Pusskins and Little Whiskers by Sam Lloyd|longer Mr Pusskins stories]]. He's a lovely moggy, and his expressions are a joy to behold, whether he's romping in the grass, or hmphing in the bath.

And that's about it really! It's a simple board book, done wonderfully. As soon as they're old enough to have any sort of book, ''Mr Pusskins - Colours'' should find its way to their bookshelf. Thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.

[[Miaow! by Mick Inkpen]] is another excellent board book featuring a cat. [[The Selfish Crocodile Counting Book by Faustin Charles and Michael Terry]] is an educational board book with a crocodile theme. Slightly older children learning about colours will love [[Wow! Said The Owl by Tim Hopgood]].
