Come to the land of Nara and meet Nok Tok, De Li, Lau Lau and Yojojo. Let's Play Peeka! accompanies the CBeebies show Waybuloo, and is aimed at the very youngest children.
I didn't think much of another recent Waybuloo book. It was largely just an advert for the TV show, not really offering anything in its own right. Although Let's Play Peeka! is still something of an advert, there's much more for the youngest children to enjoy. This board book is based around the bright and bold characters playing peekaboo, and does a good job of drawing the young readers into the exciting world.
There are sturdy wheels to turn, which make the characters pop-up. Young fingers will have no trouble handling them, and they will stand up to repeated turnings. The story itself is very simple, but it gives parent and child an opportunity to talk about the pages, who's hiding where, and really have an opportunity to admire the interesting scenery. It's short and sweet, but very young pre-school children will find it pleasant enough, regardless of whether they also watch the TV series.
My thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.
If pop-ups and flaps are your thing, then Chick by Ed Vere and What's In The Witch's Kitchen? by Nick Sharratt are superb. Where's Noddy?: Pull-the-tab Surprise Book by Enid Blyton continues the hide and seek fun. I Can Do Anything That's Everything All on My Own (Charlie & Lola) by Lauren Child is another TV tie-in, and is great fun.
