|summary=A charming little anthology of quotes from our favourite bear, Christopher and Piglet.
}}
For a small book, a small review – this is a quite delightful little thing, about which not a lot can be said. It is a gift book pure and simple, much in the way that Pooh Bear was a little simple at times (Pooh… thought how wonderful it would be to have a Real Brain which could tell you things). With it comes a simple blurb, and almost instructions that it is for giving, and there is a space for a loving dedication at the beginning, which is again only apt, as it is all about love. Love of honey, love in friendship, love of all various kinds, but just love. It can't help but make you most warm-hearted.
I am guessing that if you really didn't ever take to the world of Milne's works this might be a frippery too far, but Pooh cannot be dismissed out of hand. Neither can this book's simple construction, for even if it is a cut-and-paste illustration, a large font heading and a small quote for every double page spread, there is a whole lot of charm here, and just as Pooh couldn't see regarding himself, some great intelligence at work. I really had to laugh when the comment regarding Enduring Love was accompanied by Pooh sailing away attached to a balloon. We knew Pooh knew his Tao, but Ian McEwan as well??
This is a token, a slight volume intended to say volumes. It's a reprint of an earlier 2002 edition, should you be a collector who cares about these things. Like Pooh's charm, and like any Valentine's gift, you'll either get it or you won't. As we here at the Bookbag have the love bug, we're very much enamoured.
I must thank the publishers for my review copy.
The Truth About Love by Philip Ardagh is an all-ages friendly introduction to this whole Valentine malarkey.
