The matte pages are lovely to touch, and the design is very pleasing on the eye, with a fun font, and so much colour on every page. The illustrations reminded me very much of classic Richard Scarry with a touch of Duplo in the zoo animals, and it means the living things can coexist perfectly with the more mechanical beings. If you’re the kind of person that allows pens near books (!), the front and back inside covers are begging to be coloured in, too.
I read a lot of picture books for this age group, but I really liked this one. It doesn’t have a gimmick to it, or even my faithful go -to rhyme, but it’s sweet, it’s exciting, it’s gender -neutral, it’s beautifully done, and it’s one caregivers won’t mind reading again and again as the story’s fun and not too long! Top marks.
Thanks go to the publishers for supplying this book. We also have a review of The Snow Beast by Chris Judge.
There's more robot fun in No-Bot, The Robot With No Bottom by Sue Hendra
