Jokes must be enough for you. Because, aside from a short introduction, ''Gagged and Bound'' is one hundred percent joke. The gags are arranged in rough themes, each set underway by a cartoon which is a joke in itself. But really, this book is like Tim Vine breaking the record for most jokes in a minute - or an hour, or whatever it was - it's what it says on the tin: a succession of one-liners, puns and dad jokes going at your laughing muscles in a joyously pell-mell, headlong way. It's irresistible. Honest.
There isn't a joke book in the world where every one is a hit but ''Gagged and Bound and Gagged'' has many more hits than misses. It's best read in short bursts so that you don't get any giggle fatigue. It's the best way to savour the corkers. I'll share a couple of our favourites chez Murphy:
''My wife's a professional wine-taster. She's wasted in that job.''<br>
