|summary=A great book for writers of all kinds, with advice for the absolute beginner all the way through to how to fine-tune your linkedin presence and best use it to spread awareness of your brand. I read the audiobook, but would advise you buy the print or ebook version, as you're going to want to refer back to bits of this a lot.

Ann Handley has compiled a one stop resource for writers of any kind of marketing and promotional material. Assuming you have command of basic vocabulary and know how to write a simple sentence, Handley takes you through everything you could ever need to know for a huge variety of platforms, purposes and problems, in order to better represent your business on the internet.

Giving examples, both good and bad, along with practical tips, Handley's guide is friendly, encouraging and most importantly accessible. It's titled 'everybody writes' because in Handley's view, that's true. With the vast majority of people on some social network platform, and businesses increasingly reliant on their social network profiles, it's probably fair to say that there are a lot of people out there who don't consider themselves 'writers' who are finding themselves taking up the mantle. What's good about ''Everybody Writes'' is it quickly dismisses the mystique of writing, reducing it down to manageable pointers that even the most absolute beginner couldn't feel intimidated by.

Which is not to say that there isn't plenty here for those who aren't absolute beginners to take away. As the guide moves on from the absolute beginner stuff, it starts to dive quite deeply into the technical aspects of appealing to customers and spreading awareness of your brand, particularly the platform specific advice.

Alongside writing advice, Handley provides lists of a number of writing tools - programs and applications you can use to maximise your writing output, as well as places to find good free-to-use photographs and other additional things to spice up your blog posts. They aren't comprehensive lists, but certainly excellent starting points.

I listened to this book in audiobook format, and though narrator Cynthia Barrett does a great job of presenting the information in a clear and expressive manner, I can't see any advantage to having the audiobook over the print book. Constantly as I was listening, I wished I had the print version so I could easily refer back to some of the checklists and pointers. The audiobook does come with a PDF download of some of the images and examples Handley refers to throughout, but it wasn't these I really wanted.

So, a great book for writers of all kinds, with helpful, clear advice on content marketing and brand awareness.

My thanks to the publisher for sending a copy.
