Father Christmas has a problem. Because the house had no chimney he had to use his magic dust to shrink himself down so that he could slip into the house through the keyhole. All went well until the very tiny Santa bumped into a fruit bowl containing just one banana and all his magic dust flew up in the air - and landed on the banana. The banana was rather pleased - brought to life he jumped up and down and began dancing and singing - but Father Christmas was distraught. Without the magic dust he couldn't ride his sleigh and deliver all the presents. Eventually the banana calmed down sufficiently to realise that Santa had a problem and the only way out of it was for banana to fly Santa to the moon so that he could get more magic dust. Yes - I know - it's bonkers.
it's a lovely adventure involving some aliens with a nasal problem, a vacuum cleaner and a moon which shines a lot more brightly than it used to. Here at Bookbag we're great fans of [[:Category:Allan Plenderleith|Allan Plenderleith]]. His stories are always just that little bit cheeky, great good fun and with a little more depth to them than you might be expecting. Most stories for emerging readers would have had Santa shrinking, flying off to the moon with Banana, collecting the dust and then returning - but this story has much more besides and with room for a little humour on the way. Think of how a banana looks like smile if you hold it one way - and looks as though someone is unhappy if you reverse it!
The publishers too have had the great good sense to produce a book which fits ''perfectly'' into small hands. It's a hardback with good quality paper which doesn't show too much of a shadow through from the other side and it's almost matte, which makes reading so much easier when you're starting out - or if you suffer from dyslexia. The font looks just like un-joined up writing with which most children are going to be familiar. These books are real gems and I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.
