What a lovely book! Betsy is a big grown up girl so it’s time to start school, but that’s a scary thing to do. There are so many other boys and girls there, and she doesn't know any of them. Will she make it through the first day with no tears?
This is a beautifully simple and clear book about starting school, and suitable for those heading off to pre-school or reception class for the first time. It offers a positive, happy image of the place but also shows it’s ok to be scared or nervous at first.
I loved the old fashioned presentation of this book. It reminds me of the ''Lucy and Tom'' books I used to read. Combined with the perennial topic, this makes for a timeless book that will remain a classic for many years. The pictures are lovely, slightly muted colours making for a calmer finish than some modern titles. The text is clear and spaced out enough for new readers to attack on their own and there’s some lovely touches like a penguin on the cover of the book Lisa reads. No wonder there is such a fan in the audience!
I can find no faults with this book. It’s sweet, well pitched, comforting and clear. An all round winner.
