Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam are two dogs with half baked idea for what thy they think will be the perfect crime - despite their previous failures. The dogs prepare a wonderful feast to lure their intended victims out, making cupcakes, pies, buns and every sort of baked treat you can imagine. They have a wonderful time baking, but all the while they are planning to rob all of their guests when the party is in full swing. The feast is a huge success, but the robbery is another disaster. A small act of kindness and a heart -felt apology results in forgiveness, and a wonderful idea for a new career.
My son enjoyed this book, especially attempted robbery of the zoo. The illustrations bright and colourful and perfectly match the text, as well as having a few opportunities to add to the text if you wish. The robbery of the zoo is the perfect example where we imagine what the different animals might be saying. This is full of humour, but has a gentle moral to the story as well. It encourages children to think of how taking something that doesn't belong to you might hurt others, shows the importance of an apology and trying to make things right. Even more importantly it shows that we can learn from our mistakes.
