''Things That Go'' is one of a series (more on the other books later) of books designed with the youngest readers in mind. It has just twelve pages in a substantial board and with a padded cover which will be soft in baby's hands will wipe clean. It's sturdy but not immune to being pierced if it encounters a sharp object. Each double page spread shows a method of transport in black, white and one primary colour. There's a statement of what it is: ''It's a bike'' along with a very small amount of supplementary text. The picture has simple lines and it's obvious what it is.

This book includes the bike, a digger, a train and a fire engine and then there's a final double-page spread when they all appear again. I was slightly disappointed that the car on the cover didn't appear inside - but that's me being greedy. Everything in the book is bold, clear and designed to engage the very young. This book will probably be ''bought'' for boys by adults because the contents seem rather male orientated but there's no reason why girls shouldn't enjoy them too.

<amazonuk>1407133268</amazonuk> In the same series ''Animals'' covers the dog, a pink pig (which goes ''oink, oink''), a cat and a cockerel, plus a cow on the front cover.

<amazonuk>1407133284</amazonuk> ''My Toys'' has an aeroplane, a ball, a car and a drum. Parents may regret the inclusion of the drum in years to come and there's a teddy bear on the front cover.

<amazonuk>1407133276</amazonuk> ''In the Water'' gives us a frog (which goes ''ribbet, ribbet!''), a duck, a crocodile and a penguin, who - rather confusingly, says ''flip, flap'' but I doubt the youngest readers will be quite so picky. In addition there's a whale on the cover.

It's a useful and engaging series of books and I'd like to thank the publishers for sending copies to the Bookbag.

Very young readers will probably also appreciate [[Flip-A-Shape: Go! by SAMI]].
