Mummies are good for lots of things - wiping noses, singing in the car, helping with wee-wee's! This sweet story tells us the best things about mummies from a baby's point of view.
I think one of my favourite things about this book is how well it portrays what a mum's typical day can be like. For all those friends who think being a stay at home mum means I am 'a lady who lunches' then this book shows, thanks to the words and the pictures, that most mums actually spend their time trying to make themselves vaguely presentable whilst looking after a small clinging monster, wiping noses, drying tears, singing loudly in the car whilst on the way to do the shopping (either for purposes of entertainment, or to keep certain small people from taking an unscheduled nap!), monitoring behaviour when out and about, cooking acceptable meals, wiping dirty bottoms, playing at bath time, reading stories...well, you know how it is!
The story is told through rhyme with simple two line phrases. The language is easy to understand, and the pictures enhance the text perfectly. The images are lovely, large and colourful throughout, with simply drawn faces and easily recognisable events. It's perfect to share with little ones, and because the baby featured is portrayed vaguely enough to cover it being either a boy or a girl, and either an older baby or a small toddler, it can apply to a broad age range.
It's fun to see the different things that happen through the baby's day, and all the reasons why the baby loves his or her mum. I think it's great to encourage little ones to express emotions and there is nothing sweeter than when my little girl puts her arms around me and says 'I love you Mommy', so we really enjoyed reading this book, spotting the similarities with our own relationship together. Definitely recommended.
