''Jamie and Todd are horrified to learn that the Grand Plan, which they thought had been defeated, is about to be implemented in 1775, America. Hector and Catherine have to thwart Travis - an agent of the Grand Plan - who is hell bent on world domination. Jamie and Todd go with Hector and Catherine on a mission to 1775, to prevent a super gun from being used in the Battle of Bunker Hill, during the American War of Independence, but only have days to stop history from being altered.''

The second book in the ''Time Trap'' series, as you can see, has an urgent a mission for our young heroes as the first, which took place in the smog of Victorian London. This time, Jamie and Todd are off to the grand landscapes of North America. Travis, an agent of the Grand Plan, is attempting to take the Gatling gun back in time and change the outcome of the Battle of Bunker Hill, a pivotal episode in the American War of Independence.

As with book one, the historical detail is accurate and well-researched but never presented in a boring way. The revolutionary war comes alive in the pages - dangerous, daring, reckless, political - and is seen through the eyes of both participants and time travellers. I don't want to tell you too much about the plot for fear of spoiling all the fun, but suffice to say that the action is non-stop and you'll meet many characters from history along the way.

Time travelling adventures are always popular - perhaps because everyone loves to try to get their heads around the various paradoxes involved. Time adds an extra layer of mystery to any mystery adventure so it's not simply whodunnit and righteous comeuppances that draw the attention. ''Time Trap'' II follows in this tradition well - it has derring do aplenty, a good twisting plot and contemporary characters that young readers can relate to. It will suit any young lover of adventure but also the many young people with an abiding curiosity about history.

The relationships between the characters are always credible and engaging - particularly the tension between reserved, clever Jamie and rebellious, athletic Todd. And the villains are as blackhearted as they come.

What more could you want from a time travel adventure?!

There's a fabulous [http://www.timetrap.co.uk/website] attached to the ''Time Trap'' series. You can read more about author Richard, the historical background to the stories, the characters, and even follow trails based on the books. If you complete the trails, you'll get your own Time Trap certificate! It's a great resource, built with care, and really allows readers to make the most of what they've read. It's both entertaining and educational and I recommend a visit.

Of course, you should read the [[Time Trap by Richard Smith|first book]] in this series before you even think about this one! If time-slip adventures are your thing, you'll love [[Gideon the Cutpurse by Linda Buckley-Archer]].
