If I could recommend just one classic book to readers young and old, in the hope they would fall in love with it, it would be this one every time. Highest possible recommendation to all.
Further reading suggestion: Despite the completely different subject matter, and their much longer length, I'd liken this to Carlos Ruiz Zafon's [[The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon|The Shadow of the Wind]] and Carsten Jensen's [[We, the Drowned by Carsten Jensen|We, The Drowned]] for the sheer beauty of the writing. You might also appreciate [[Careless People Murder Mayhem and the Invention of the Great Gatsby by Sarah Churchwell]] and [[Indiscretion by Charles Dubow]].
