It's time for Nutmeg the mouse to go bed, so she packs away her toes, washes her whiskers, and mummy reads her a story. When it's time to sleep, Nutmeg can't sleep. She wants a drink, her favourite cuddly toy and a blanket. What will it take for Nutmeg to finally fall asleep?

Every parent has heard the cry of "Muuuuuuuuuuum, I want a drink of water". Every child has felt scared of the dark, or not wanted to go to sleep just yet. It's immediately familar. There's an underlying message that children will understand in ''One More Hug For Nutmeg'', but it's not hammered home, so the story itself can be enjoyed in its own right. There's also a fun twist at the end which will make the little ones laugh.

Caroline Jayne Church's illustrations suit her gentle narrative perfectly. They're bold and simple, yet warm and expressive. You'll love Nutmeg and her toy Molly from the moment you see the front cover. Seeing just their eyes poking out over the blanket later in the book is such a sweet image.

''One More Hug For Nutmeg'' will make perfect bedtime reading for any young child, regardless of whether or not they can never settle down for the night. It may well help those who can't settle. Recommended.

Thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.

[[Please Don't Torment Tootsie by Margaret Chamberlain]] is another picture book with a message - this time 'don't be mean to cats', which Nutmeg might not approve of.
