Feelings is another addition to the Mr Pusskins series of board books, this time introducing the very youngest of book fans to all sorts of emotions, from jealousy to excitement, sadness to surprise.

Much like the previous book about colours, each page features one example and has an illustration of that feeling. There's also an overall story about a cake, which is simple enough to make it suitable as one of the first books children have. It's also engaging enough to keep parents interested through multiple readings - as their children get older, they'll be able to hang more and more story on to the events, rather than having to read a book of flashcards for the zillionth time.

Sam Lloyd's illustrations are as glorious as ever. Everything's beautifully familiar, and means children will feel comfortable when they progress to the longer Mr Pusskins books. Even though he's a bit of a scruffbag at times, you can't help but want to stroke Mr Pusskins, which is great in any book about cats!

In a straight choice between Colours and Feeelings, I'd plump for Colours. Maybe that says more about me, but in terms of learning, it's mostly colours, numbers and animals at that age. If you've got room on your shelf for both, then they'll be firm favourites. Recommended.

Thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.

Other books for young 'uns looking at emotions include Where's My Cuddle? by James Mayhew, The Littlest Dinosaur by Michael Foreman and Some Dogs Do by Jez Alborough.
