As in previous books in the series, Bryan, Stinky and Icky are living on an Earth without parents or clean pants. The gang find a ventriloquist's dummy, decide to put on a show, and then have to face off against giant slugs, pay a £25m fee in Dr Lovethang's frabjous space clinic, and all manner of other madcap events.

Deadly Doll of Death is more of the same in this fun series. It's light, zany, easy to read, and high on adventure. It's peppered with cheesy jokes and sweaty armpits. It's the kind of silly that children love and grown-ups sigh at - think Saturday morning TV in particular. The plot zips around, barely stopping for breath, but it doesn't matter as it's all about the gags, the thrills, the ickiness and stinkiness.

It doesn't have the rounded depth of George's Marvellous Medicine, the widespread charm of Sensible Hare or the unrelenting bum puns of The Day My Bum Went Psycho, but there will be sniggers a-plenty as its young readers plough through the pages.

There are a few comic nods to previous books in the series, but never at the expense of new readers. You can dive right in with Deadly Doll of Death without needing to know anything of the earlier books. Kids'll love it; grown ups will hate it. Exactly as it should be!

Thanks to Hodder for sending it to the Bookbag.

The aforementioned George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl, Sensible Hare by Daren King and The Day My Bum Went Psycho by Andy Griffiths will be lapped up by fans of Deadly Doll of Death.
