After having my baby just over two years ago, I have found it quite hard to shed the weight which seemed to be sticking around. I used to be quite thin before having him, so to suddenly go up a dress size was a bit of a shock. I'm quite a petite person so even just a few extra pounds shows unfortunately. I decided I had to get rid of the weight, and so I turned to this book sent to me by The Bookbag.

The book is written by Celebrity Fit Club's Marisa Peer. She has a background in nutrition, and has treated many celebrities throughout her career to help them lose weight. I have seen that the book has rave reviews on Amazon, with people claiming amazing losses thanks to this book and accompanying CD, so I had really high hopes for what it could do for me as I didn't have a huge amount of weight to lose.

Having never tried a book like this before, I was a bit suspicious about whether it could actually work, and the sort of things that the book would tell me in order to make me lose weight. I didn't want anything that would make me hate food, as I do love to eat good food, instead I wanted something which would make me change the way I thought about food and consequently what I ate, but in a good way. I didn't want to stop eating the things I loved, but I wanted to change how much of the 'bad things' I ate in order to still enjoy them but lose the weight as well. I definitely used to be an overeater, but now I don't feel the need to finish everything on my plate, which makes me feel so much better after a meal!

The book starts by telling the reader that it isn't going to dictate to you how to lose weight, but instead change your way of thinking about food, and along with hypnotic text, will encourage you to treat yourself and your body differently to make you want to change. That sounded good to me, so I eagerly started to read, hoping that the book would quickly start to work! The book is set out into chapters such as Choose to be Thinner, Think Thin, Get Thin and Breaking Patterns. Each of these chapters aims to target a specific problem regarding weight loss and talks you through the way you think about yourself.

I began by reading a chapter a night, and really thinking about what I had read the night before throughout the next day. The chapters aren't too long, around fifteen or so pages each, so I found it quite easy to make time to read it slowly and carefully, really taking the words in. It was very easy to read, no technical language is used so nobody can be put off. I found it really made me question the way I looked at myself, for example telling me to think positively about my figure instead of negatively, and to use positive words about myself and food instead of negative ones.

The way the book was written really made me want to read on, and I found myself agreeing with a lot of what was said which really surprised me. It claims to have a hynoptic style language but I didn't find this too apparent, it was just interesting and thought-provoking, making me think about it of my own accord rather than hypnotically. I thought I had a good mind-set about food, but when I read this, I realised that I didn't at all! I really crave chocolate and crisps and things, but the book has made me realise that I can have these things as a treat, but they aren't good for me. I still love the taste of them but don't crave them like I used to. For me, this is probably the biggest change of mind about food as chocolate was my vice, I loved it yet now I could easily leave it if I don't want it.

I was so tempted to weigh myself reguarly when I was reading this book, but I wanted to leave it a while to see if I was getting any results rather than getting upset if things didn't go as I wanted them to. I read the book in around ten days, and then started listening to the CD afterwards. The book does advise that you don't listen to the CD until you've finished the book as it reinforces all of the lessons learnt while you've been reading. I left it just over two weeks before weighing myself, and to my surprise I found I had lost 3lbs very easily. As I didn't have a vast amount to lose, this was a big deal to me and I was thrilled, considering I hadn't changed things that much!

One thing I didn't like so much was the book's attitude to certain foods such as wheat. I do love my bread, and I don't actually eat very much of it, so didn't really want to change my bread intake. I did read the section on thinking about bread differently, and some of the things Marisa says were actually quite horrible, and really made me feel a bit sick reading it. I quickly skipped the rest of that section, and felt a bit annoyed that I now felt badly about bread when that wasn't my problem in the first place. I do think you have to be careful about how seriously you take this book and the areas you read regarding food, because it is very strict about all foods.

Another four weeks after my initial weigh-in, I had lost a further 5lbs. So that's a loss of 8lbs in just eight weeks. Considering I hadn't upped my exercise at all and had just changed the way I was eating, I think this was fantastic. I couldn't believe that amount of weight had gone just through minor changes, and I really have to credit this to the book and the positive thinking, attitude to food and the exercises I have continued to do throughout the time. I keep picking up the book and reading certain areas over and over because they are good for me to read, and I feel they are most beneficial to me.

Now I have done the book, I am really glad it has worked for me because I've lost half a stone, gone down a dress size again and have a lot more energy to run around with my little boy again. Just 8lbs has made a real difference to me, and I can imagine that this book could be really successful if you have a large amount of weight to lose. Considering how much people spend on certain weight-loss groups, shelling out just £9.99 (or less) for this brilliant book is a lifetime's investment, and I can honestly say it's changed the way I think about me and food for life.

A final update, three months on after starting the book, I have now gone a whole 12lbs down, and that was reached after about eleven and a half weeks. I am not looking to lose any more weight now, as I am back to roughly where I was before I had my son, and that's where I wanted to be. I feel so happy with myself now, I see the positives about me rather than the negatives, and I know my fiance has noticed I am a happier person. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to people wanting to lose weight and think differently about food and themselves. It's like a miracle on paper, simply fantastic and I am so glad I tried it!

Please note I said no to borrowing this item because it is something you need for yourself, you do need your own copy as you'll constantly be referring it to it and listening to the CD.

Thank you to the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag!
