If you're going for the traditional favourites, then ''The Orchard Book Of Nursery Rhymes For Your Baby'' is the perfect choice for you. You might want to also consider [[Favourite Nursery Rhymes by Brian Wildsmith]], which has many of the same big names, but also offers up some less familiar ones into the mix. Both are wonderful collections, and if you don't mind some crossover, there's no reason for not owning and loving both. Highly recommended.

All your favourite nursery rhymes are here, from Hickory Dickory Dock, through Little Bo Peep and Three Blind Mice, to Sing A Song Of Sixpence. With over sixty nursery rhymes to choose from, all the big names are presented in a beautiful compendium that you'll treasure for years.

Nursery Rhymes For Your Baby is an utterly gorgeous collection. It'd make an ideal present to celebrate any new births, or as a present for any early birthdays. The rhymes may well be familiar, but it's exactly the sort of much-loved anthology that can be handed down from generation to generation. With a foreword by US Children's Poet Laureate Mary Ann Hoberman, it's a timeless selection, brimming with love, and crying out to be treasured.

Penny Dann's illustrations are superb. They have lots of energy and excitement, yet are perfectly balanced against the sort of charm and sweetness that makes this the sort of book that children will remember reading for years and years. All the well-known characters are presented much as you'd expect. They're all interesting and engaging enough to draw you in, yet they sit perfectly alongside the text (and any other times you've come across nursery rhymes) by not dominating proceedings with unexpected characteristics. Originality and familiarity go hand in hand.

If you're going for the traditional favourites, then The Orchard Book Of Nursery Rhymes For Your Baby is the perfect choice for you. You might want to also consider Favourite Nursery Rhymes by Brian Wildsmith, which has many of the same big names, but also offers up some less familiar ones into the mix. Both are wonderful collections, and if you don't mind some crossover, there's no reason for not owning and loving both. Highly recommended.

My thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag. We're going to shelve it next to The Oxford Treasury of Nursery Rhymes by Sarah Williams and Karen King.

The Selfish Crocodile Book of Nursery Rhymes by Faustin Charles and Michael Terry is another excellent book of nursery rhymes, and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and Other Nursery Favourites by Mandy Stanley is also worth a look - although I'd still pick Nursery Rhymes For Your Baby and/or Favourite Nursery Rhymes over both of them. For interesting twists on nursery rhymes, check out Previously by Allan Ahlberg, Little Bo Peep's Troublesome Sheep by Cressida Cowell, Not Last Night But The Night Before by Colin McNaughton and Emma Chichester-Clark, and The Great Nursery Rhyme Disaster by David Conway and Melanie Williamson. If your baby loves books, well, Babies Love Books by Catherine Anholt and Laurence Anholt is the book for you!
