Aldrin knows everything. At least he thinks he does. So when rabbit asks why the moon is getting smaller, Aldrin is to embarrassed to admit he really doesn't know. Instead he launches an investigation and quickly comes to the conclusion that the moon is being stolen. This is one of the most fun books we have read recently. You can't help but laugh at poor Aldrin and his expertise, and the beautiful illustrations make this story very easy to follow, even for the youngest reader. Before the book is finished, Aldrin will not only learn about the moon, but also about friendship, boasting, jumping to conclusions, accusations and apologies, and along the way he will stumble into one hilarious situation after another.

This is a story first and foremost, and an excellent story at that. It does have some science, but this is limited, and clearly aimed at very young children. This book shows the moon's orbit, tells children how long this take and teaches them the names for the changing face of the moon. I do wish it explained why the moon waxes and wanes, and because it does not I would only give this four stars if I were rating this as an educational text. But considering the strength of the story, the amount of humour and the many other wonderful features of this story, I really can't bring myself to give it less than five. My son loves it as well, and the very best part is that since children will certainly ask to hear this book again and again, the facts that are presented will quickly be committed to memory, even in a very young child.
