Sock It! is a bit like Pants by Nick Sharratt, which makes it more of a long entertaining rhyme than a story as such. Because of this I'd say it's one to read together with your child when you want a bit of fun, as opposed to a bedtime story, as it has a very loud feel, with bright illustrations and silly rhymes to make kids giggle and want to join in.

It's enjoyable to read out loud and I can really imagine that boys of a certain age will find some bits incredibly entertaining, with smelly feet and Gran's knitted socks making an appearance, whilst Mums and Dads are bound to relate to the sock-eating washing machine.

It's a book full of nice observations and ideas but on occasion I felt the rhymes were a little forced and that the illustrations weren't always quite as in sync with the rest of the book as they could have been. Sometimes they felt more in line with a comic strip than with the type of book this is trying to be. Having said that, I'm sure a lot of kids will really enjoy it, and there are some very funny moments in the book as a whole. Books along these lines are always popular and there is certainly a sock-shaped gap in a market currently saturated with pants!

I generally found Sock It! an enjoyable read, though maybe I would say it's one to borrow from the library rather than buy to keep for good. However I still think it's worth a look at if your children, like most, enjoy reading about pants, farts, and anything else that you can only get away with talking about when you're little!

I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.

Reading Suggestions : If you enjoyed this book then you would be mad not to try Aliens In Underpants Save The World by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort to find out how they rescue mankind with pingy pants elastic!
