Since the Break, no baby has lived longer than three days. Scientists have studied every baby to try and find a cure, but with no luck. The human race is on the verge of extinction after the Partials (genetically engineered soldiers who were made to fight for humans) turned on their makers and released the deadly virus that has wiped out most of the population. For those lucky to survive, they now spend their time trying to cure the virus that kills every baby.

Kira is one of these people, at just sixteen she will soon be expected to get pregnant under the The Hope Act to help try and find a cure. But when Kira finds out her best friend, Madison, is pregnant she sets out to find the cure for herself. What she believes this requires is to study the thing that released the virus to start with: a Partial. But capturing a super strong cyborg soldier isn't going to be easy.

This book is one of the best science fiction books for young adults that I have ever read - it's intelligent, fast paced, addictive and scarily plausible. It does take a little while to kick in, but the atmosphere building is totally worth it. It also raises some good moral and ethical questions, which really got you thinking.

Kira is a strong female lead, whom I liked, though she did have a bit of a temper. She was brave, witty and stubborn, what more could you want in someone who's going to save the human race? The show-stealer though, was Samm. He was strong and yet had a vulnerable quality, and was very sweet. Alright, I thought he was amazing.

The action scenes are gripping, and the science scenes where easy to follow, it had just the right amount of romance and it was funny. I can honestly say that this book was perfect. Go and read it now.

Thank you to the publishers for sending me a copy of this brilliant book.

If you enjoy a good dystopian society story, try Delirium by Lauren Oliver, Matched by Ally Condie and Uglies by Scott Westerfeld. You might also enjoy Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings and The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry.
