If you've got a question you can text those nice people at AQA 63336 and they'll do their best to provide you with a prompt and accurate answer. Over the last five years they've answered some twenty million questions and each autumn they publish a book with the best and most interesting of the year's answers. There's some fun to be had in this year's book.

What would books like these be without the questions on life, sex and bodily functions? Well, it's a little more than the questions you might expect, ranging from what can happen to human hair swept from the floor at the hairdresser (I bet you'd never even have thought about oil spills and growing fungi) to how many tears you'd have to shed to lose three stones. Personally, I'd have thought that growing a few inches might be an easier option if it's your BMI you're worried about. If you're in the habit of eating your own nose mucus there's even an answer to suggest that this might be a good thing.

The questions about food are fascinating. If you feel the need to know how long the proverbial chocolate fireguard would take to melt then you need look no further. For those in a hurry a chocolate teapot would melt much more quickly. If you're in the habit of drinking African palm beer I'd suggest that you might like to avoid the question about human spit unless giving up alcohol is a new year's resolution.

I've never wondered about what sent sales of Cherry Chapstick through the roof, but apparently Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl had quite a lot to do with it. If your tastes in music are more classical then you can find our why every member of the orchestra wears a pink carnation on the Last Night of the Proms. For those with a historical bent you can find out when the Rolling Stones played the Royal Lido Ballroom at Prestatyn.

My favourite question in the book is about the name of Noah's wife. Now apparently she's not named in the bible, but 10% of Americans think Joan of Arc was Noah's wife. I suppose it's an understandable mistake! Perhaps slightly less understandable is David Hasselhoff's claims that he reunited Germany. Someone wanted advice on how to get Russell Brand to fall in love with them. They got a lovely answer, but I just wanted to ask why?

Moving on from my favourite question I have tell you about my favourite chapter in the book. It's called You couldn't make it up and it's a selection of answers from those applicants for a job with AQA who didn't, er, quite make the grade. You'll be delighted to know that the cost of the Mail on Sunday is the same as on any other day of the week, but there's a problem because the Post Offices are not open. Worrying is the lack of understanding about how percentages work, but the dietary advice about eating takeaways is frightening. I howled with laughter at this section.

One major improvement on earlier years is the inclusion of an index. Now people can quickly find their favourite question and answer so that they can repeat them to everyone they meet. Just think – it you bought everyone a copy of this book as a stocking filler at Christmas you'd keep them all fully occupied through the New Year.

I'd like to thanks the publishers for sending a copy to The Bookbag.

For more interesting facts we can recommend Don't Swallow Your Gum by Dr Aaron Carroll and Dr Rachel Vreeman and Eye Spy: Uncovering the Secrets of the World Around You by Justin Scroggie.
