I must admit that my immediate reaction when I saw the title ''Latte or Cappuccino?'' was that a filter coffee would be very pleasant, particularly with a shortbread biscuit.  But it's not a book about coffee but rather about choices we encounter which could make a real difference to our lives.  You see one coffee has 150 calories and the other just 90 and over the weeks and months that decision can mean substantial weight gain - or loss.  There are 125 of these relatively minor questions which can have real impact, particularly when you add them all up.

They're not all about food.  There's quite a bit about exercise - which is going to have most impact on your health, what to do if you're looking to get your exercise in the course of your daily routine and how to choose exercise which you're likely to stick with.  The advice is all sensible and non-preachy - designed really to make you ''think'' about decisions you make (or might have made without thinking about the consequences) and how you can make relatively minor changes which make a difference but don't involve the dreaded ''giving up'' words.

It's easy to read and arranged so that you start in the morning of an average day and work your way through the choices.  You might not come to the same conclusion as Hilly Janes.  I didn't on the question of doing my own housework or getting someone in to do it - but I did think through all that she had to say, acknowledged that in different circumstances I would have agreed with her and felt that what I was doing was right for me.

There were areas where I ended up looking at a situation differently.  I was surprised by the quantities of caffeine in some drinks and food and the effect it could have on you at different times of day.  It's probably not something I would have researched for myself but when it's presented pithily over no more than a couple of pages I was more impressed than I would have been had I been lectured on the subject.
