Very stylish, observant and oh so spiky, this is an incredible, often uncomfortable novel that you just can't put down.
The book centres around five people: Joy Stephens, a top London lawyer, Dennis her husband, Barbara her P.A., Peter her work colleague and Samir her personal trainer. On a Friday afternoon, while addressing her work colleagues, Joy plummets forty feet onto a marble floor. Each of the characters talk talks about what they saw, and what they knew about Joy. But as they talk, they are forced to confront important moments that shaped all of their lives, moments of passion, love, loss and regret. The more they talk and the more they examine these moments, the sharper these moments become and the filtering and blurring with which they had each smothered the memories begin to clear away, until a picture of Joy as she really is, and that of the people she had chosen to surround herself with, emerges.
Modern, vibrant, funny and dark.
