Would highly recommend this book, it's absolutely charming and I don't think you'll find one out there quite like it!
For further reading, it's hard to suggest anything quite like this, but if you like the idea of a quirky look at crime, try [[Pushing Up Daisies (Agatha Raisin) by M C Beaton]]. You might also enjoy [[The Unnoticeables by Robert Brockway]].
