Isobel Graves hasn't got the life she envisioned. She moved to LA to become a star-soaked television presenter, instead she's dressing up everyday in a series of wacky promotional costumes on the streets. She thought she'd be married to a gentleman, instead she's fallen into a lacklustre relationship with a pilot, whose booty calls do not send her sky high. So when Isobel sees a man from her past on TV, someone she was once married to on the playground at school, she wonders what her life would be like if they were married now. With everything to gain and nothing to lose, Isobel attempts to find her first husband and take back control of her life.

This book is a nice read. It's laid back, witty, relaxing and jam packed with amazing island scenery. (If you don't read it on holiday, you'll want to go away immediately after). Blake is a good writer and a paints a vivid picture. Some parts of the story are the natural chick lit cliche and other parts are surprising. Blake does awkward very well, some of the silences will have every British reader shivering in horror. All in all, this is a nice book, but it's not one I can rave about either.

As an escapist, girly read it didn't really do it for me. I think it was because I didn't connect with Isobel, and this is essential when you're reading a book in first person. I just found her a bit hollow and wishy-washy. The story is based on the ridiculous idea of following someone you haven't seen in 20 years round the world because you have nothing to lose, which is a really fun plot. What spoils it is Isobel. The way she had always wondered what their life would be like together makes me cringe at her, not with her. If you're in your twenties and mooning over the man you 'married' in the primary school playground, not only would your friends be unsympathetic, they'd think you were insane.

I thought long and hard before reviewing this book and I'm still quite conflicted about it. There were a lot of parts I liked, I think the way Blake portrayed Andrew was spot on and I feel like everyone will have met a Duncan at some point in their life. The story was funny and fun and lovely light reading, and it would be a great one to pick up and put down by the pool.

If you're looking for a hilarious heroine you can cheer for, try the classic Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy by Helen Fielding.
