With a big production film you can be almost overwhelmed by all that's there to see, but what most of us forget is that in the film-maker's archive there's an awful lot which we never get to see. Harry Potter: Magical Artefacts Colouring Book is packed with stunning pieces of artwork from the Warner Brothers archive, giving you the chance to colour the magic of J K Rowling's wizarding world. There are the props from the Harry Potter films: an enchanted map, a piece of jewellery that can turn back time, vials full of liquid memories and newspapers with moving photos. What an inventive brain that woman has!

There's a hat that sings, brooms that fly as well as textbooks that bite. The illustrations are elaborate and patterns are intricate - everything which delights the colouring fan. You can bring colour to Howlers, Horcruxes and more. Unusually for a colouring book, you also get fifteen pages of concept art and film stills to inspire you: you can go with the original colours or be as inventive as you like.

I liked that there's a good range of projects, from small pieces which you might well complete in a relaxing few minutes through to larger projects which could well absorb much of your free time for days or even weeks. You get inanimate objects (well, as inanimate as any ever are in Harry Potter) as well as people. The more skill that you have, the better the result will be, but I didn't spot anything which would be beyond the capabilities of the average person. The back of the book says that it's suitable for ages 3+.

There are very few double-page spreads where the gutter will spoil the finished result, but on quite a few of the pages the designs do extend well into the gutter area which will mean that the spine of the book will need to be comprehensively broken if you want to complete the picture. It would be possible to display a finished picture, but pick carefully as there'll be another design on the back of the page.

I found a recommendation on Amazon that colouring pencils are used to colour the designs although I couldn't find this in or on the book itself: you might like to bear this in mind if you normally use Sharpies or similar. Even with crayons you can have a lot of fun with this book and I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.
