Summary: This one does what it says on the tin: makes you laugh heartily at its puns, one-liners and dad jokes. There are relatively few misses and otherwise the gags here are silly and funny and delightful. Some may prefer a slightly less haphazard organisation but I rather liked it.

Ok. I am not a funny person. I come up deplorably short on the old wit and repartee. My puns are never new. I feel this lack of comic talent quite keenly and I think that's why I love other people's jokes so much. So Gagged and Bound was always going to be right up my alley - it's a collection of very short gags on any subject you can imagine. A stream of punny/funny consciousness, if you will.

The problem is this: how does an unfunny person like me review a funny book? I have no idea.

Jokes must be enough for you. Because, aside from a short introduction, Gagged and Bound is one hundred percent joke. The gags are arranged in rough themes, each set underway by a cartoon which is a joke in itself. But really, this book is like Tim Vine breaking the record for most jokes in a minute - or an hour, or whatever it was - it's what it says on the tin: a succession of one-liners, puns and dad jokes going at your laughing muscles in a joyously pell-mell, headlong way. It's irresistible. Honest.

There isn't a joke book in the world where every one is a hit but Gagged and Bound has many more hits than misses. It's best read in short bursts so that you don't get any giggle fatigue. It's the best way to savour the corkers. I'll share a couple of our favourites chez Murphy:

My wife's a professional wine-taster. She's wasted in that job.
What's precise and sounds like a carrot? Accurate.
I bought the complete set of Encyclopaedia Britannica the other day. That says it all.
If Death set up a sewing business, there could be some serious reaper cushions.

Boom boom, right? Right?!

I really can't think of a criticism. Perhaps the theming is a little haphazard but that's as much of an advantage as a disadvantage, I feel. Who wants to predict what laugh is coming next? We all need to laugh more. And Gagged and Bound might just help us do it.
