J Ravencourt.jpeg

Jean Ravencourt was born in Fontainebleau, France in 1964, the son of a French museum curator and a British army officer. Thanks mainly to a difference of opinion between President de Gaulle and the NATO Command, he spent a nomadic but happy childhood moving between Fontainebleau and Brussels. He has his parents to thank for instilling in him his restlessness, a passion for history and a love of anglo-french culture, although he sometimes regretted that they gave him what is often taken for a girl’s name in anglophone circles.

Jean studied English and History at the University of Nottingham before embarking on a career in Human Resources for various European Institutions. To relieve the occasional boredom he writes historical fiction, in particular French history which he believes is full of interesting tales and mystery, and not sufficiently well appreciated outside France. Jean Ravencourt lives in Brussels with his wife and youngest daughter. Too old to run marathons any more, he has crazy ideas now about sailing around Cape Horn.
