Hello from The Bookbag, a site featuring books from all the many walks of literary life - fiction, biography, crime, cookery and anything else that takes our fancy. At Bookbag Towers the bookbag sits at the side of the desk. It's the bag we take to the library , the charity shop and the bookshop. Sometimes it holds the latest releases, but at other times there'll be old favourites, books for the children, books for the home. They're sometimes our own books or books from the local library. They're often books sent to us by publishers and we promise to tell you exactly what we think about them. You might not want to read through a full review, so we'll give you a quick review which summarises what we felt about the book and tells you whether or not we think you should buy or borrow it. There are also lots of author interviews, and all sorts of top tens - all of which you can find on our features page. If you're stuck for something to read, check out the recommendations page.

For Ian Mathie fans there This is good a dyslexia-friendly, science fiction novella for young adults. It tells the tale of Hugo, an unwanted and bad newsrather lonely android, who makes a living for himself mending time-travel watches. Ian has come up with the missing link in When one of his clients demands that his narrativebroken watch be mended, the story of Hugo realises there is a very unusual childhood (yesmystery to be solved, the very years that made him the amazing man he became). The bad – well it's hardly news two years later – and is that the book is published posthumouslyonly too ready to help. As alwaysAn exciting journey of discovery unfolds, it's beautifully writtenwhich takes Hugo out of his drab attic workroom and into a scary adventure with some amazing new friends, with many exciting moments. What I most enjoyed was the feeling that many exploring regions of the questions in Ian Mathie's later books are answered in Wild Child with a satisfying clunk. Seemingly all that's now left in the drawer is unpublishableplanet never before known to exist. Full Review

Sometimes you begin reading a book We first meet Sylvia Penton on her birthday and before you've got her boss, the Prof, is taking her out to the bottom lunch. This is her favourite day of the first page you know that year, not because it's going her birthday but because of the special time she gets to be brilliantspend with the man she loves. You sense the authorHe's effortless grasp of told her subject matter that he and his wife are going to divorce - Martha is apparently having an affair - and you already know Sylvia is convinced that her use of words is almost surgical in its precisionthe Prof will then declare his love and they can be together. The hands holding you are safe, which considering that this is a book about two subjects where facts are She hasn't fully constructed 'together' in short supplyher own mind - she envisages it as romantic, is somewhat surprising. Our first subject is but her imagination hasn't yet progressed to the sexual part of the Reverend Willie Maxwellrelationship. PoorIn following a young girl called Alice down the rabbit hole a few years ago, frumpy Anne when the first book she was in hit 150 years of Cleaves always gets a raw deal by historyage, of all I found that I didn't really find too much favour with it. The wacky-for-the wives -sake-of Henry VIII she is -it did not gel, and I don't remember loving it more as a child. But I would suggest I am the one who is known perfect audience for being rejectedthis book. Anne Boleyn and Katheryn Howard were I had every chance to enjoy these short stories that come at the sexy onescore from a tangent, Jane that show the dutiful one who delivered a son, Katherine benefits of Aragon clung on to her crown and Katharine Parr clung on to her life but poor frumpy Anne of Cleaves just rolled over and moved alongthe oblique glance. Not any more! Alison Weir presents us with a different view of this young woman who saw the opportunity I've always preferred coming to live an independent life author's output through their least obvious, allegedly throw-away pieces, and took it's the same with franchises – I'd more likely go for Bree Tanner's short novella than the whole Twilight saga (although that remains just a hunch, for obvious reasons). For another thing, there was every reason to expect some kind of greatness here – with Carroll much loved by millions, surely pieces written with that love in mind could only provide for success after success?
