For further reading two spring to mind apart from the obligatory mention of [[To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee]] which has been a big influence on this series and is such a classic that I can't NOT recommend it. Firstly, if you're looking for another young adult series which is fiercely intelligent and wonderfully literary, [[The Monstrumologist: The Terror Beneath by Rick Yancey]] is the first in a series which is just getting better and better. On the non-supernatural front, the general feel of the world falling apart around a few teens frantically trying to survive here is similar to that in the excellent [[Tomorrow When The War Began by John Marsden]].
