I don't feel that I found ''everything you need to simply fix yourself in one place'' as it says on the book cover, but this isn't a disadvantage as such a book might have been quite daunting.  There's an excellent foundation on which to build and a bibliography should you wish to go further.  I'd like to thank the publisher for sending a copy to the Bookbag and the author for the anecdotes which he included in the book which helped to make it so readable.

There are a lot of self-help books about: it's one of the most thriving sections of the average bookshop, but it's not always easy to find the book you need. Samesh Ramjattan has addressed this problem in Be Your Higher Self, a book which allows us all to make sense of our place in the world, as most of us only glimpse our true potential and few people ever achieve it. Even with hard work and dedication, obstacles present themselves and it's difficult to understand why or how they can be overcome. Ramjattan offers us a guide to the spirit world, the chakras, karma and reincarnation as well as information about the age of Aquarius and the ego. It's a slim book - just 128 pages - so can it provide us with the answers we seek?

Normally I would be sceptical about a book like this as I have no belief in any religion or, indeed, the spirit world. I read from interest and curiosity, but was won over when I realised how much of what Ramjattan had to say chimed with how my own life had progressed, particularly with regard to the subject of karma. When I have lived less than admirably there has always been a payback, or karma as Ramjattan would say. On the other hand, life has been a lot smoother, a lot more rewarding when I have lived selflessly, when I have put others before my own desires. I moved from being curious, to being intrigued and wondering how I could make other improvements.

I read the book over three days, not because it was a difficult read but because I found there was a great deal to think about. The book is in two parts with the first providing the background knowledge which you need and the second part - You Can Fix Yourself giving ways in which you can make your life better. I found myself nodding in agreement in some areas, particularly You Are What You Eat. I've never before felt that I could master meditation, but the guidance is clear and simple and I've already made a start. Alternate nostril breathing sounds rather strange, but is strangely calming and I've found it useful before meditation. I was rather concerned at first that religion, whether one in particular or the need for a religion would be suggested, but Ramjattan is remarkably free from any bias in this area, simply saying that it can help. I liked that he stressed the importance of love.

I don't feel that I found everything you need to simply fix yourself in one place as it says on the book cover, but this isn't a disadvantage as such a book might have been quite daunting. There's an excellent foundation on which to build and a bibliography should you wish to go further. I'd like to thank the publisher for sending a copy to the Bookbag and the author for the anecdotes which he included in the book which helped to make it so readable.
