Would you like to hazard a guess as to what happens in Aliens In Underpants Save The World? Correct! With a giant meteorite heading towards Earth, and only four hours to do something about it, the humans are all out of ideas. Luckily, the aliens are keeping an eye on things, and hatch a plan to save the day and safeguard their supply of underpants.

You know exactly what you're getting: a wacky and zany story, with lots of pants and lots of aliens. It's a fun romp, with a happy ending clearly in sight at all times. There's plenty for children who aren't quite reading themselves to snicker at. Everything is pitched perfectly - other than a mention of pants, there's nothing remotely rude or unsuitable. Roll your eyes and pretend you disapprove; they'll love it all the more!

There's a strong sense of rhyme throughout. Thankfully, none of the rhymes feel too forced, as can often happen in picture books. Everything's set up nicely for children to join in with the last word, which will help with recognising words, learning to read, and just plain enjoying the book.

Ben Cort's illustrations are excellent. The painted style allows the aliens to seem cute and approachable, whilst still being delightfully quirky and other-worldly. The pants, in particular, are bright and vibrant (as pants should be). There's a great level of detail, with plenty to spot on every page. The style suits the story perfectly. Recommended.
