|summary=Unsettling and highly original, narrated by a ten year old girl growing up in a house of fundamental religious views, this debut novel is full of charm and humour as well as dark concepts. If you enjoyed Emma Donoghue's Room last year, you'll love this.

Our huge thanks to the kind ''little people'' at Chatto & Windus for decorating our bookshelves with this charming book.
The most strikingly obvious recommendation of reading this is [[Room by Emma Donoghue]], again featuring a believable child narrator. This book is likely to be as much praised as Donoghue's book was last year. [[The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent]], set in the historic world of the Salem witch trials, is also well worth a look. In non-fiction terms, you might also enjoy [[Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? by Jeanette Winterson]] whose upbringing was almost as disturbing as Judith's. We think you'll also enjoy [[The Professor of Poetry by Grace McCleen]].
