Chief Rhino is hanging out at Blazes Fire Station, waiting for an opportunity to save the day. When he spots a fire at Great Granny Wrinkle's house, he and his team rush into action. But is everything exactly as it seems?

Chief Rhino To The Rescue is a fun picture book. I was reminded of Richard Scarry's books of towns inhabited by animals. There's a great sense of adventure and quirkiness, with enough familiarity about day-to-day life for it to immediately strike a chord. There's a deep enough plot for it to be perfect for book-lovers who haven't quite moved on to reading by themselves, but want a bit more than the simplest of picture books. And what child doesn't love firemen? What parent doesn't love making neenaw neenaw noises?

Sam Lloyd's illustrations suit the story perfectly. They're big, bold and cartoony. Every page is awash with a wide range of characters. There's so much to pore over, particularly on the page that looks at Whoops-A-Daisy World in its entirety. Children will love reading and re-reading Chief Rhino as there's so much to take in each time.

I shall leave the final word to Jack, whose feelings are on a sticker on the front cover: The story was brilliant. Chief Rhino is really cool. That pretty much sums it up. Recommended.

My thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.

If wild animals are your thing, you'll love Achilles the Crocodile in I Really Want To Eat A Child by Sylviane Donnio and Dorothee de Monfreid. The Three Little Pirates by Georgie Adams and Emily Bolam looks at seafaring rescue, rather than land-based rescue, and is lots of fun.
