Liv is starting to understand the Fae world that has existed in secret, and her place within it. But the more she understands, the less she likes it. Visions of a girl torn between two men continue to plague her – visions that are starting to feel alarmingly similar to her real life relationships with Gabriel and Ricky.

Ricky the passionate, charming biker, tied somehow to the Wild Hunt. And Gabriel, the cold and enigmatic lawyer, chosen of the Twyleth Teg. Two men set to be on opposite sides of an ancient rivalry that Liv would rather have nothing to do with. But the closer she gets to understanding her heritage, the more it looks like her choice will have devastating consequences.

Armstrong continues to deliver paranormal thrills and twists and turns in the latest instalment of her Cainsville series. The characters are now more clued up about the world of the Fae, and the roles they have to play within it, but that doesn't mean that they aren't kept guessing every step of the way.

The Fae characters continue to be economical with the truth they give to Liv and Gabriel, and the opposing groups both try to manipulate them to their own ends. What you think is going on vacillates from one extreme to another, keeping you guessing right until the end. With plenty of mystery left over for the next book, of course.

But what makes the story for me is the energy and fizz in the interaction between the characters. Ordinarily, love triangles annoy me, but you really get a sense of the deep respect Liv, Gabriel and Ricky have for each other, and how Liv could develop feelings for both.

So, if you enjoyed the previous instalments, you'll find lots to love in this. If you like Armstrong's writing, but haven't read any in this series, though, don't think it's like her [[Waking the Witch (Women of the Otherworld) by Kelley Armstrong|Women of the Otherworld series]] which you can start reading at any point. Start this series from the beginning and enjoy the mystery as it unravels. Jumping in in the middle will only leave you completely bewildered. Trust me, if you enjoy paranormal mysteries, this series is well worth investing in.

My thanks to the publishers for sending a copy.

If you enjoy paranormal thrillers you might enjoy [[The Iron Wyrm Affair by Lilith Saintcrow]].
