Summary: This is a fantasy book for children who can read quite well by themselves. It is very funny and a bit like Lord of the Rings. It has good characters but is boring at the beginning.

I bet you didn't know this, but there are lots of little people living in carpets. This is a story about one particular tribe of people living in one carpet. Our heroes are Glurk and Snibril who are the Munrung brothers. They must save their carpet from Fray, the most terrifying and dangerous enemy of all the tribes of the carpet. Sorry, but that's it now. If you want to know more then read the book yourself!

I liked Glurk the best. He is not very smart but he is very brave and hardly makes any mistakes. He is very funny. Snibril is the brainy one and quite strong but nowhere near as strong as Glurk. Along the way they meet lots of different characters who are all interesting.

I really liked The Carpet People because it is an adventure story but also a funny story. I think it was a joke on Lord of the Rings because lots of things happen that are like Lord of the Rings made silly. It made me laugh and it made me quite excited to find out what happens.

The only drawback to this book is that it takes a really long time to get to the part where Glurk and Snibril know what they have to do. If you didn't like fantasy kinds of books, you might get bored before the good bits happen.

I think a lot of people would like this book, even adults. There are some hard words in it like "unimaginably" and "plateau", so you would probably need to be about 9 before you could read it on your own.

The Minpins by Roald Dahl is a little bit like the Carpet People but it is for younger children.

I'm not a fan of Pratchett - but this one does sound mighty tempting!

I liked it in bits but I think he has written better both for children and adults. The Amazing Maurice is a better book for me and both of the Tiffany Aching books but even though this is not my favourite it is still worth a read. It made me laugh too and you are spot on in that it does take ages to get going!

What a good review and telling potential readers the minimum age for reading it was a jolly good idea. Never been a Pratchett fan myself, but may even give this a try.

This was my introduction to Pratchett back in the summer of 1992 and I loved it so much that i went on to collect all his other novels (I even have the Unadulterated Cat!). I was enchanted by the idea of tiny people living in the carpet and their adventures were so vivid it was very easy to imagine myself right alongside them throughout.

Actually, I'm due a re-read of this as I haven't read it in a while - thanks for reminding me how good this one is!
