Have you ever noticed that there are certain processes which a child needs to master but which cause quite a lot of grief along the way? Most children are alright with one or two but stick on others - and they're the ones which parents come to dread each day. Getting dressed is one of these. The need for it isn't immediately obvious and - let's be honest - there's not a lot of fun in it is there? Well - that might be about to change with a series of books from Debbie Foy which inject some fun into the processes.

In Pants, Vest, Getting Dressed there's an immediate emphasis on doing what parents do as a young man tells us:

I always watch what Daddy does, now I can do it too!

There's choice too, as the little girl peeps through the window to see what the weather is like. It will help her decide what to wear, but she's still going to get her favourite clothes. Meanwhile her brother is pulling on his pants and vest, but he's wondering about what he'll be having for breakfast. We're not going to day-dream though - there are wellies and flip-flops for us to count and decisions to make about what we would put in our bag before we went out. Before we do though we have to make certain that everything is buttoned up, zipped or fastened.

It's a simple routine in a colourful board book which every child is going to recognise. It's fun and that neat emphasis on this being what parents do is going to encourage the reluctant dresser. It's even short enough to be shared with a child in the morning to give encouragement to get dressed.

We've also seen Toys, Play, Tidy Away, Spoon, Cup, Dinner's Up and Bubbles, Tub, Have a Scrub from this series and they're all on the same practical lines.
