Six months after the final events of This Savage Song, Verity is in chaos. What a story. What a conclusion. What an emotional rollercoaster. Our Dark Duet was un-put-downable from start to finish. I absolutely loved it and can't recommend it enough, very different from its predecessor and very entertaining. I can't put into words just how brilliant this book was but I'll endeavour to try…
Firstly, the plot is very clever and keeps you on your toes. I never knew where the story was going and I didn't want to know either – I loved being constantly surprised. It's expertly put together and every chapter is full of excitement; I was very concerned about ripping pages in such a hurry to find out what happened next! The pacing is also executed very well, giving the reader time in the first half of the novel to see the changes in our beloved characters. We can see just how troubled they are by their inner demons, their struggle to fight every day and their tragic succumbing to darkness. It's heart-breaking, but fantastic character development. August and Kate grow so much in the six months apart that readers won't recognise them and their journey of redemption back to themselves has only just begun. Readers will really connect with them, I cheered with them, laughed with them and cried with them. I was very emotionally invested in their stories and loved every minute.
Finally, the writing is irresistible. It's lyrical, gripping, intense and magical. Everything you'd expect from VE Schwab. She's a genius, there's no question about it. If you love epic storytelling then look no further. You won't be disappointed.
A really superb conclusion. I loved every page, definitely one to read!
