Love Monster has been away on holiday, and he's just come home with that 'holiday's over' feeling, only to find that someone has left a large box of chocolates on his front doorstep! Who left them there? And why? And would it be okay to eat them by himself or, actually, should he really be sharing them with his friends?

I think we all know that temptation of not sharing. Of receiving a lovely box of chocolates, or getting a packet of sweeties, and then the thought crosses our minds 'shall I go and eat these on my own, quickly, before anyone sees?!' Poor little Love Monster has a real dilemma on his hands. What if he does share his chocolates but there aren't enough? Or what if someone takes the chocolate that he wants most of all? Or, worst of all, what if he ends up with the coffee one?! It's a tricky situation, and takes some thinking about.

Love Monster, as his name might suggest, is really very adorable! He has funny fat toes with triangle nails, and little triangular teeth and lots of pink fur. There's something about his eyes that reminds me of my little boy, who is not far off two now. He has that same wide-eyed expression, and as Love Monster sneaks into the house, secretly, with his box of chocolates, I could very well imagine my son doing much the same should he happen upon an unattended biscuit. I really love when Love Monster is preparing to indulge in the chocolates by himself, standing by a boiling kettle with his hands on his tummy, smiling to himself about the delight that is to come! And that picture works so well with the next one where Love Monster is all set in his cosy armchair, with his cup of tea, and on the shelf next to him is a framed picture of all his friends engraved with 'good times together', right next to a card that says 'friends look after each other' - cue lots of guilty feelings!

I won't spoil exactly how it ends, because it wasn't quite what I'd expected and I like that! Needless to say, the message of the story is a lovely one, and this is a sweet book to share repeatedly, though it might bring on a tummy rumble or two!
