Lizzy thinks everything is going well in her life until it all goes startlingly wrong. Her boyfriend dumps her very publicly whilst she is dressed as Henry VIII at a thirtieth birthday party and unfortunately the whole debacle is filmed and ends up on YouTube. She becomes known as 'head butt girl' as she is filmed demonstrating her fury. Her PR job is also going nowhere as she finds herself having to try and promote some very strange concepts. At least she has her two best friends for solace and they can all be found, many evenings, drinking away their sorrows and putting the world to rights.

Summary: Lizzy Spellman has been publicly humiliated. Her boyfriend finished their relationship at a thirtieth birthday party in the middle of a karaoke number. If that wasn't bad enough someone filmed the whole thing and posted it on YouTube. Is this enough to put Lizzy off romance for life or does she still believe in love?

Into Lizzy's already complicated life comes Elliott, a serious journalist, who has already scorned Lizzy's somewhat half hearted PR approach to publicising the very bizarre 'happy halo'. Elliott has very recently been left by his fiancée and is unsurprisingly very cynical about everything to do with dating. He and Lizzy do start meeting up though, mainly to grumble at each other and there isn't even the remotest hint of attraction between them. Or is there? But are they so adamant that neither of them will fall in love again that they fail to notice the spark between them?

I thoroughly enjoyed It Had to be You and found it to be a lovely, easy read. From the moment I picked the book up, I found myself drawn into the story and I enjoyed all the different storylines. Sometimes they were a bit predictable, and random, but for a light summer read that doesn't matter. There is a great deal of humour in the book and I often found that I had a smile on my face as I was reading.

I immediately warmed to all the characters and found myself liking Lizzy more and more as the book went on. She is funny, sometimes scatty, and often resilient as she puts up with all that life has thrown at her. I found myself rooting for her more and more and hoping for a happy ending. There is also an interesting array of minor characters including Lizzy's boss, Antonia, who always seems to have her head in the clouds, and Elliot's eccentric mother who desperately wants to save the family stately home.

If you are looking for a bit of light reading, this book is thoroughly entertaining. It's perfect for a bit of escapism on a lazy afternoon.

Why not also take a look at Two for Joy by Helen Chandler.
