Author Katy Colins became Britain's most famous jilted bride when the true story of her subsequent lonely hearts backpacking trip went viral, before becoming a romantic comedy book series with this the latest one.

Possibly because it's loosely based on real-life experiences, the story itself was fairly run of the mill. The main character, Georgia Green, flies to Australia to help her best friend, Shelley, with the final preparations ahead of her wedding including an outback road trip to the wedding dress sale-of-the-year, also masquerading as the hen-do. Unfortunately, unbeknown to Georgia her best friend has morphed into a bridezilla and the other bridesmaid is hiding a painful heartbreak, all of which leaves Georgia little time or energy to focus when her own here-to 'perfect' life suddenly takes an unexpected turn.

What I did love though was the ongoing situational humour that supported the main plot. I could totally relate to boarding a long-haul flight only to find myself sitting next to a rude overweight man whose 'fleshy rolls hung over the armrests' or being given a beast of a hire car complete with faulty petrol gauge, ripped seats, dangling headlights and foggy smell. There was also my favourite part where the hens got lumbered with fellow back-packer Sarah-Jane, a know-it-all who likes the sound of her own nasally voice, wipes her nose on her bare arm and disappears whenever it's her turn to get the drinks in. Each of these supporting characters and comedic situations were so well described and realistic they had me both cringing and laughing out loud – witty, on-point humour at its best.

If like me you haven't read any of the other books in this series then don't worry as it really won't matter. Although that said unusually for me I didn't really feel emotionally invested or connected to any of the main characters, despite them all being totally likeable, which no doubt you would had you followed their previous adventures and already got to them know.

Not necessarily a page-turner but easy to read, brilliantly witty and thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless. Other chick lit series you might like are the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella or Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy by Helen Fielding. You might also enjoy Honeymoon Suite by Wendy Holden.
