Adriaan Verheul is a retired UN official, living in Northern Virginia, US. After his studies in Leiden, Netherlands, he worked as an academic in the dutch navy and then joined the UN, first to work in human rights and later in peacekeeping. After a short stint with the World Bank and a few years as an independent consultant, he returned to the UN to work in peacekeeping missions in Sudan and Congo. His career took him to troublespots on four continents, mostly in the context of trying to demobilize soldiers and rebels and to get them jobs in a post-conflict environment. Fed up with being away from home, he retired to support his wife Mandy in her career and their children Teunis and Justine in their education. “A Clean Death” is his first novel.
