Lottavim and Normus are twin giants. They're incredibly close, loving, and do everything together. The only difference between them is that Lot loves meat and Norm loves vegetables. As with all fairy tales, they grow up (to the impressive height of 18 feet each), and look for wives with whom they can live happily ever after. Along the way their are cases of mistaken identity, missed opportunities, and plenty of games of Roll the Boulder.

Dick King-Smith's story fits perfectly into the grand old tradition of fairy tales. It's a simple story, with charming characters, continual interest, and plenty of adventure. His writing style is clear, crisp, and with every word perfectly chosen.

Mini Grey's bold, quirky and beautiful illustrations are melded perfectly with the words on every page. With the main characters being giants, there are plenty of tiny details of regular-sized people and animals to pore over and see what you can spot.

The Twin Giants will be treasured for years. It's perfect for reading to children, reading together, and then to read alone. The story, the language, everything, are perfectly pitched, and will never feel too babyish or too grown up. There's a gentle level of humour throughout (best summed up by the names of the giants), which puts a smile on everyone's face.

It's a warm, cosy, and lovely book. You'd have to have a heart of stone not to love every last page of it. Highly recommended.

Thanks to the publishers for sending it to Bookbag.

Younger children will love The Smartest Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson.
