Can I let you into a secret? Promise not to tell anyone, but I do wonder if a lot of adult colouring books are not just a little bit too worthy. They're all very intricate and rewarding when you've finished, but I was chatting to someone recently who mentioned that it might take generations to complete her colouring book. I mean, where's the fun in that? When I relax I want to have a good time, enjoy myself and feel better at the end of it. A good laugh wouldn't go amiss. Anyone disagree with that? I thought not.

Well, I think I might have found the answer in The Mindless Colouring Book. It's art therapy exclusively available to anyone with £8.99. Beginning to end, it's the most fun you can have with a mug full of sharpies. Let me give you an example: meet Mo-Hawk:

Isn't he superb? He's great fun to colour too. There's something for everybody's sense of humour: I loved the headphones where the wires between the headphones and jack are rather like a bowl of spaghetti. Relax and unwind it says. Or how about the McMindless Burger - a bun and filling that tops out at more than six inches high? I liked the inspirational goat: Jeremy has stopped smoking cigarettes and taken up knitting. There's wonderful fun to be had with all those balls of wool. There are inspirational thoughts too. Remember. Tomorrow is a new day. When you turn the page you discover that unfortunately it's bin day, complete with a stack of bin bags and an urban fox.

Have you got the idea of the book? Great. Now down to the practicalities. It's good quality paper so there's no bleed through from the reverse of the page and at A5 size it's a book you can take with you when you're out and about. I was less happy about the designs which covered double pages: even with the spine of the book broken (that really hurt - me and the book) it was impossible to colour into the gutter - and I really did want to do the picture of Susan the inspirational goat who's given up capitalism and is living in harmony with nature. That's me being Mistress Picky again though: it's still very good value for the titular £8.99 and I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.

If it was a mindful colouring book you were after, then we can recommend Colour Me Mindful: Birds by Anastasia Catris.
