What happened when a dragon moved into the town's library? Or when Cowgirl Katie's horse went shopping and rode on the escalator? This fun collection of short stories is unusual, odd and very entertaining!

I'm a fan of short stories. I enjoy that feeling of living something quite intensely over just a few pages of text, and this was certainly an enjoyable collection of stories. The style is a little odd, quirky you might say, and some people might not get on with it, but I really enjoyed them, weird and silly as they are. There is, for example, one story about a man who always has a long luxurious bath every morning, but it's making him late for work and getting him into trouble. So, rather than cut short his soak he instead puts wheels onto his bath and turns it into a mode of transport, so that he can continue soaking on his way to work. And then, of course, he is reluctant to leave the bath and so he ends up serving customers whilst sitting in his bath. Unfortunately his poor wife is unhappy with the lack of bath at home and confronts him about it in the shop one day. The man's boss eventually resolves the situation by suggesting they get another bath for her to travel around in too, and thus everyone is happy!

All of the stories are very different, and yet they are equally strange. Here in our house we particularly enjoyed one about a pirate who becomes a bus driver. It contains a very naughty parrot and a very fast bus. You should definitely read it! The stories are all very short, some only three pages long and the rest not much more than that. Because of this they work very well for reading aloud. My four year old thoroughly enjoyed listening to them and we actually read about half of the book in one sitting since she kept asking for 'just one more' and being so short I felt like reading just one or two wasn't very fair! Yet they're entertaining enough to be read by confident readers alone as well, and although there are illustrations they don't make it feel like a picture book, but simply add a little something to the text.

If you're not a fan of the bizarre then you might want to borrow this one before you buy, but otherwise sit back and enjoy these mini flights of fantasy!

I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to The Bookbag.
