A little while ago a read a children's book about How to Make Money. I was impressed by its mixture of common sense ideas and information so I had to have a look inside when I saw a book in the same series: obviously it wasn't in the least because I thought that I might need the advice!

The first point that author Fiona Foden stresses is that this is a book about how to be gorgeous, but she goes on to explain that this isn't just about having glossy hair, great skin and a wonderful dress (although she does admit that these help). It's about looking amazing, but still being you. It's about having confidence in who you are and having a positive energy about you. It's about having great friends - and being a great friend, in fact being the sort of person that everyone wants to know. She promises that most of what she suggests is not going to break the Bank - somethings are virtually, if not totally, free and it's all easy. So how does it live up to the promises?

It's good. I was particularly impressed by the ten tips to gain confidence, (no - I'm not going to tell you. Read the book yourself!) which are sensible and can be put into practice in a cumulative way and there's advice from women whom young girls are going to relate to - not an elderly granny or a fuddy-duddy teacher! I loved too that there's good advice about not slavishly following fashion but developing your own style. There's lots of advice about looking good and dressing stylishly, with lots of positive advice and very little that's negative.

Friendship is a strong thread which runs throughout the book, which is aimed at the eight-plus age group with a strong emphasis on developing good relationships. It has the feel of being quite a grown up book (which will delight any tween girl) but there's absolutely nothing there which isn't age appropriate. It's a book which every girl in the age group should have: it's delightfully readable and easy to refer back to on specific points.

I'd like to thank the publishers for sending a copy to the Bookbag.

Do have a look at How to Make Money. Slightly older girls will appreciate Have You Started Yet?: You and your period: getting the facts straight by Ruth Thomson and Chloe Thomson, but tween girls will love Think Pink by Lisa Clark.
