Dael Akkerman was a lawyer and a freelance writer, illustrator and photographer. After leaving Amsterdam she studied archaeology, anthropology, philosophy and the history of religion in New York, Paris, Naples, London and St Petersburg before settling in England, where she spent the rest of her life.

Noema is her only novel.
